New drivers must complete the course before taking a DMV road test and applying for a license, unless they complete a 48-hour Drivers Education Program through their local participating high school or college.
You must have a valid NYS DMV Photo learner permit to enroll in the course.
Pre-licensing Course Certificates are valid for one year from the date it is issued.
The certificate is required to schedule a test, and must be brought to your road test to turn into the examiner.
